LELAKI LEMBUT DAN WANITA TAK BERKAHWIN

In kecelaruan jantina on May 28, 2008 at 6:44 pm

Berkhatan hanya sekali seumur hidup orang lelaki. Orang perempuan lagi teruk kena jahit setiap kali lepas bersalin.”

Lelaki lembut punca wanita tiada jodoh?

sumber:Sinar Harian 29/05/08

Sejauh manakah kebenaran penyataan?

Bukan punca lelaki lembut – Zuraida Kasim

Faktor komitmen keluarga – Norhayati Samad
“Saya tak setuju dengan isu lelaki lembut menjadi punca wanita tiada jodoh. Tetapi saya akui, zaman sekarang wanita agak sukar mendapat jodoh mereka.

Lelaki gerun wanita berjaya -Siti Aminah Mahat

DR M RECEIVED ROUSING WELCOME

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his speech on arrival at Subang airport (presumably he was using his private aircraft to go to Tokyo, ? bought whilst PM of Malaysia) proudly said that there was no difference for him whether he was an UMNO member or not since the people respect him all the same, judging from the rousing welcome offered to him.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad came back to a rousing and emotional welcome when he arrived here from Tokyo yesterday.

Shouts of Hidup Tun (long live Tun) reverberated as the former Prime Minister addressed and thanked the crowd with a loud speaker from the sunroof of a four-wheel-drive vehicle after he touched down at the Subang airport about 6pm.

Warm reception: Dr Mahathir speaking to the crowd from the sunroof of a four-wheeldrive vehicle at Subang airport Tuesday.

Dr Mahathir, had recently quit Umno, the party he led for more than two decades. He was accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

“Thank you. If I’m not wrong, when I was an Umno member before, the welcome that I received was no different than now.

“When I was an Umno member, I was not treated like one, so there is no difference in becoming a member or not,” he said to resounding cheers.

The crowd comprised mainly Umno branch leaders from Jerlun, Kedah to show support towards Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir continued his scathing remarks against current party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and accused him of being afraid of Singapore.

“I feel very sad as the Umno members and leaders now are no longer prioritising the party’s fight. Instead they are only fighting to retain Abdullah. Now, the impression is no loyalty to Abdullah means no loyalty to the party.”

YB LAU DARI DAP BERHUJAH DENGAN NAS AL QURAN

In ISA, NAS AL QURAN on May 28, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Anda bagaimana?

Usul Bantah ISA Lulus: Semua 20 Adun BN Tiada

FARUSH KHAN

Suara Selangor MAJU

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND LACK THEREOF

In 1 on May 28, 2008 at 4:46 pm

So much has been said about blogging and bloggers that the “government” with all its resources and sophistication has now fully engaged with the new media in a “head on” manner. The DPM himself has started to response with issues raised by RPK in his Malaysia Today. Good on You. The real issue of why blogging has really come to the fore has not been looked at “head on” by the government. Instead the government has beat about the bush and avoid it, if not acknowledged the fact that she is the “root” of the “problem”.

The freedom of expression as accorded in the Federal Constitution has been stifled by various acts like OSA, ISA, AUKU, Seditious Act, Police Act so on and so forth. The control of the media by the government in the form of ownership and licensing has not helped at all. The biased reporting, manipulation and selective news blackout on the opposition have all contributed to the new media gaining foot hold in the country. The era of globalisation, internet access, cheap or free web hosting and widespread international travel have contributed to the “opening of the Malaysian Minds”.

The public now is more critical, open minded, more conscious of their rights as citizens, more aware of the activities and lifestyle of their elected representatives, want to know more about how their hard earned money are spent, last but not least they are getting more and more demanding about every thing.

Government to engage bloggers in cyberspace

Thestaronline

By SHAHANAAZ HABIB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will take on bloggers in cyberspace and respond to wild and baseless allegations raised in blogs.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said remaining silent was no longer an option.

He acknowledged that the Government had overlooked the need to engage the new media, which was a new dimension in shaping public opinion, in the recent general election.

The Government had not been savvy in engaging the new media and lost out in cyberspace, he said, adding: “But we live and learn.”

Najib said this during a question and answer session at the Asia Media Summit 2008 here yesterday.

He in fact has started the ball rolling by putting a reply through his press secretary Datuk Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad to a posting on Malaysia Today, a news portal run by Raja Petra Kamaruddin.

Najib said it was obvious that the Barisan Nasional Government would now need to engage the new media.

“We need to have people who are active participants of the new media, who are sympathetic and understanding of the government’s position.

“Therefore, instead of just criticising them (the new media) or running them down, the best thing to do is to engage them. Hopefully they will understand our perspective,” he added.

To another question, Najib said the Government gave the mainstream and new media a great deal of latitude to criticise.

However, he said: “There is a line which shouldn’t be crossed” because it could undermine the wider interest of society.

On action taken against blogger Raja Petra, Najib said he was charged with breaking the laws of the country – making baseless allegations and seditious remarks.

He said Raja Petra had been free to criticise the Government “very robustly and stridently” in his blog for years and the Government had not taken any action against him.

“But when certain things he said constituted a very serious attack against the institution, the Attorney-General decided that he had crossed the line,” Najib said.

Other than the new media, he said the established media too had become more critical since the elections.

“If you read the newspapers on a daily basis, you will see that they don’t hold back their punches. If they know there are weaknesses or abuse of power anywhere, they will latch on to these and criticise the Government and individuals openly,” he said.

In an immediate response, blogger Ahirudin Attan (Rocky Bru) welcomed Najib’s announcement that the Government would respond to allegations, saying:

“This is really good. It’s better late than never and it’s something for the blogging community to rejoice because blogging is about interacting with each other.”

The National Alliance of Bloggers president said one of the alliance’s aims was to get the Government to take part in blogging.

“This is because blogging is also about giving feedback to the Government and it’s great that the Government is picking up the opportunity (to blog).”

DAP’s PJ Utara MP Tony Pua, who is also a blogger, felt that the Government should be earnest in replying to issues or allegations levelled against it, pointing out that the Government should not use the medium only to win over public opinion.”

“If the allegations are indeed wild, then its response to correct them is welcome. But if it’s only to put down frank criticisms, then it’ll defeat the whole purpose”.

PAPER CHASE OR SEEKING LIFE SKILL SETS?

In 1 on May 28, 2008 at 4:22 pm

The Open University Malaysia, the first University in Malaysia to run the distance learning programmes started its first intake of 753 students in 2001. Since then its cumulative students intake is well over 67,000. To ensure quality education, OUM should be highly selective of its part time teaching staffs and have ISO certification for its examination department. Perhaps the philosophy of grading the mature adult students needs reorientation.

Question bank to assess quality of learners

Open University Malaysia (OUM) is embarking on a project to develop a question bank that will serve as a repository for examination questions for the 500 over subjects it offers.Senior Vice President Prof Mansor Fadzil said the move will ensure that the questions developed are of high quality that meet the needs of learners.

“The current practice is to develop exam questions every semester which may not meet the quality standard due to the constraints of time and resources. We hope to eliminate this problem with the question bank through the structured development of questions by our pool of experienced subject matter experts, academics and tutors.

“It is timely that we rope in the academics and tutors as they are better placed to provide feedbacks on current developments and changes in their respective subjects. In the past, exam questions were set by the SMEs.”

Mansor said the move will provide a mechanism to gauge learners’ understanding and knowledge of a particular subject as the questions are structured to include the six dimensions of the Bloom Taxonomy namely one’s ability to recall, understand, apply, analyse, synthesise and evaluate.
The question bank, he said, will have an armoury of well-thought and structured questions that can stimulate critical and higher order thinking among learners. “The thought provoking and challenging questions will help nurture critical thinking in learners which they can apply in their working life. This will contribute to the development of high quality human capital needed to spearhead the socio-economic progress.”

He said the project will kick-start with a workshop in mid-April which gathers the SMEs, academics and tutors to brainstorm on the appropriate questions.

“We hope to develop four sets of exam questions for each subject that will be regularly populated. We will start with 11 subjects while the rest will be done in stages. The entire project is expected to be completed in two years. We will ensure that security be given top priority to avoid leaks.”
Meanwhile, the university’s e-content project for its learning modules has started. It entails the development of dynamic web pages that incorporate interactive features to complement the print content of its modules.

Initially, 20 modules will be incorporated with e-content but eventually, all the 500 over modules will have the e-content component built in.

“The interactive and graphic features will give added value to the learners as they make learning more engaging and meaningful,” said Mansor.

Established in 2000, OUM is the first open distance learning institution in Malaysia. The university took in its first batch of 753 learners in August 2001 but the cumulative student intake has since increased to over 67,000.

The university offers 51 academic programmes ranging from diploma to post graduate levels from the Faculties of Business and Management, Information Technology & Multimedia Communication, Science & Technology, Education & Languages and Applied Social Sciences.

With its motto “University for All”, OUM subscribes to the philosophy that education should be made available to all, regardless of time, place, age and economic background.

SPM TOP SCORERS WHO FAILED TO GET PSD SCHOLARSHIP

In PSD SCHOLARSHIP, SPM on May 28, 2008 at 2:39 am

Year after year, we hear complaints regarding the awarding of PSD Scholarships. The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic Planning Unit) S.K. Devamany tried to explain the whole situation.

*Public Service Department scholarships for overseas degree programme.

This is very competitive as the criteria is 70 points for academic excellence. The remaining 30

points are for interviews, family economic background and co-curricular activities. There are

only 2,000 places for this overseas degree programme.

* 10,000 local scholarships for which applications will open in June.

*Getting into a local foreign university, which has an offshore campus in Malaysia like Nottingham University

and Monash University. Students apply when they get a place.

* By first enrolling in Malaysian-recognised foreign universities in USA, England and Australia. The same

procedure applies.

*The students can approach companies like Petronas, Tenaga Nasional and Mara to sponsor their

scholarships.

Devamany said the PSD must explain clearly what the method of selection is since the children’s future is at stake. We quite agree with him. There are occasions when the failure is due to technical error since the application is done online, an applicant must read the instruction carefully many times. He or she must have a printer at hand and try to print out once the application has been submitted in order to ensure all the particulars have been captured. Before the closing date, a student should try to enquire about their application through the phone. Sometimes the failure to obtain a PSD Scholarship is a blessing in disguise. If you are a PSD scholar, you are bonded for ten years to work for the government upon completion of your studies. Places for courses like medicine are very limited and you have to do A-level, IB or South Australian Matriculation (SAM) for the duration of two years. There used to be foundation studies but has fallen out of favour. More…

SPM top scorers complain to MPs
Giam Say Khoon and Humayun Kabir

Source Sun2surf

KUALA LUMPUR (May 26, 2008): Four students from Selangor and Johor, who scored 11 or 12 As in the SPM, today brought their grouse to Parliament about not getting the Public Service Department (PSD) scholarship, joining an annual list who bring up the same complaint.

The students were accompanied by Pulau Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin to Parliament and were received by Yusmadi Yusof (PKR-Balik Pulau).

They were Chew Kin Cheng, who got eight A1s and four A2s; Tan Kian Hin with nine A1s and two A2s; Tiow Zyn Ann with eight A1s and three A2s; and Lim Soon Seng with 10 A1s and two A2s.

In a press conference in Parliament lobby, Yusmadi said: “Our brightest students often do not get the opportunity to go for higher education to bring out the best in them. Eventually we would only encourage mediocrity and our nation would lose competitiveness in the process.”

Yusmadi added that there was a rot in the selection system as no one seemed to know the details of the selection.

“The selection has failed us year after year. Often, the officials explained the system in general terms. However, we demand to know more. It should be transparent and fair,” he said, adding that the social background of an applicant should also be taken into account as those in need should be given the priority.

Yusmadi also said these students have other alternatives as foreign countries are providing scholarship to them but those who took up the offers, will never return to Malaysia and this was a loss to the country.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong, who also met the students, told reporters such cases occur every year because the PSD only has 2,000 allocations of scholarship every year while there are over 15,000 applicants annually.

To stop speculation on why students were rejected, Wee suggested that the PSD give all applicants who failed an explanation. This is on the rationale that if they know why they were rejected, they would accept rejection better.

Wee said some students might have received the scholarship even they though had fewer As in their SPM because they had chosen courses that are not popular.

“Students are confident with their SPM results but they must bear in mind that there are more of them who got better results and it is impossible to give everyone the scholarship even if the allocation is increased to another 3,000 or 5,000 allocations,” he said.

Wee also advised the students not to use their family background to create a sense of sympathy.

In Ipoh, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic Planning Unit) S.K. Devamany told theSun in a recent interview that there are four avenues for SPM high achievers to get the PSD scholarship to further their higher studies in the country or overseas.

They are:

> Public Service Department scholarships for overseas degree programme.

This is very competitive as the criteria is 70 points for academic excellence. The remaining 30 points are for interviews, family economic background and co-curricular activities. There are only 2,000 places for this overseas degree programme.

> 10,000 local scholarships for which applications will open in June.

> Getting into a local foreign university, which has an offshore campus in Malaysia like Nottingham University and Monash University. Students apply when they get a place.

> By first enrolling in Malaysian-recognised foreign universities in USA, England and Australia. The same procedure applies.

“A student must not be disheartened when he or she fails to get the overseas programme as there are three other alternative avenues to get the PSD scholarship,” said Devamany.

He said alternatively, high achievers can also approach companies like Petronas, Tenaga Nasional and Mara to sponsor their scholarships.

Devamany said the PSD must explain clearly what the method of selection is since the children’s future is at stake.

“We want parents to understand what the whole system is all about. You must give everybody a chance, otherwise people will run away to other countries.

“It is no point the government spending a lot of money to educate the children and then asking them to go and study somewhere else. These children must be given a chance and this justice (for excellence) must be done,” he added.
